Ruth Golan Henel was born in 1957 in Israel. The main motivation in her work are questions about the complex circumstances of life and the temporality of man. She expresses the human existence as the glory of creation, and as part of the genral vastness of the universe. In the center of her work stands man, and his struggle to find a meaning to his journey. While stretching the limits of human ability in movement, dancing and floating, man challenges the forces of nature, but also recognizes his weakness as a being and the fragility of his life.

This struggle is also reflected in the techniques Ruth Golan Henel choose for her sculptures. The strength and stiffness of the bronze that allows “hovering” of a mass of matter in space, as well as the clay that serves for the earthly sculptures. Metal or soil, hardness against fragility, power or softness. These are not just techniques but a response to the sculptors perception of life.

Are lofty moments of beauty and success nothing but an illusion in the wide range of life? Is the essence of life a constant struggle between daring and surrendering? The realization that man has no control over his life, but only over the current experience, led Ruth Golan Henel to focus on commemorating the magic of the moment.

נולדתי ב 1957 בישראל. המניע העיקרי בעבודתי הוא שאלות לגבי נסיבות החיים המורכבות וארעיות האדם, כפאר היצירה, במכלול הרחב של היקום, ובמאבקו להעצמה ולמתן משמעות לחייו. תוך מתיחת גבולות היכולת האנושית בתנועה, ריקוד ורחיפה, קורא האדם תגר על כוחות הטבע, תוך מודעות לחולשתו כבן אנוש ולשבריריות חייו.

מאבק זה בא לידי ביטוי גם בטכניקות שאני בוחרת לפסלי. עוצמת ונוקשות הברונזה המאפשרת “כמעט ריחוף” של מסת חומר בחלל, מול חימר המשמש אותי לפיסול ארצי. מתכת או אדמה, קושי מול שבריריות, עצמה או רכות. אלו לא רק טכניקות אלא מענה לתפיסת החיים שלי באמנותי.

האם רגעים נשגבים של יופי והצלחה אינם אלא אשליה במכלול הרחב של החיים? האם מהות החיים הינה מאבק מתמיד בין העזה והתרסה לבין כניעה וחדלון? ההכרה שאין לו לאדם שליטה בחייו, אלא על חווית הרגע לבדה, הובילה אותי להתמקדות בהנצחת הקסם שברגע החולף.
